What Makes Flowers Appealing

By Carol Webb

Flowers were the first ornaments, long before jewellery came in vogue. Through their vivid colours and fragrance, they have enabled people to improve their beauty since ancient times. In almost all grand civilizations that the world has witnessed, there is evidence of females and sometimes even males putting flowers in their hair.

No two flowers have an identical fragrance. Humans have identified flowers according to different emotions or states of mind and also to different occasions that the flowers best go with, and to a large extent this has been dependent on their scent and looks. Perfume manufacturers have taken out different floral fragrances and have trapped them in vials for centuries, and the astounding diversity of these scents found in nature has helped them to manufacture an unlimited variety of perfumes. However, synthetically produced perfumes that are developed from non-organic compounds have now swept the market, and flowers are rarely being used in the manufacturing process.

A flower's fragrance has its appeal not just to perfume manufacturers. In fact the whole charm of giving flowers to people rests on their fragrance along with how they look. The scent plays a crucial role in cheering a person up and uplifting the whole ambience of a room. Bouquets that arouse feelings of joy and delight in recipients' hearts are those that perfectly balance looks and fragrance. Similarly for any auspicious occasion, people use flowers liberally so that the surroundings emanate a naturally pleasant scent.

However, horticulturists have always given lasting attractiveness of flowers precedence over their fragrance, and this prejudice in selection is now beginning to display results. Other innovations in science, such as genetic modification of plants have accentuated this effect. For instance, many varieties of carnations and roses now display flawless looks and long lasting freshness, but their memorable fragrances have waned significantly.

Thus, how good a flower smells, or if it smells at all, must be the foremost consideration for buyers when they are buying flowers. Whether you are getting bouquets made or buying flowers in large volumes for a wedding or any other ceremony, it is critical that you take the advice of an experienced and popular florist in the market.

The internet is the best place to look for a good florist in Singapore, or you may ask your acquaintances about who has a good reputation in the flower-selling market. Another way of choosing a florist is that you go with a branded flower outlet. The large companies are usually quite conscious about their quality and you can be assured of a professional service as well from them. - 16890
