We have heard from many sources that NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) can do great things. But how does NLP works? When I was first introduced to NLP, I was pretty much blown away by how powerful and effective it is. Naturally, I was curious to find out how it works and how it actually does what it does.
To understand how NLP works, we must first know about our subconscious mind. In all of us there is a conscious and subconscious mind. While the conscious mind does all the logical thinking, reasoning and analysis, the subconscious mind controls our emotions, beliefs, habits and creativity.
Because our subconscious mind contains our beliefs, habits, fears and emotions, it literally controls our life. What we think, how we act, and what we do are all the result of the influence of our beliefs, habits and fears " that means whatever that is inside your subconscious.
These beliefs, habits etc that we have was not consciously decided by us. Rather, it was developed from the past events and experience in our lives. Obviously, a man with phobia for flying did not decide to have that phobia. Something triggered that, such as a really bad flight experience.
Heres the thing, before any thoughts, beliefs or habits get embedded into the subconscious, our conscious mind will first filter what goes into the subconscious. All thoughts and ideas will be analyzed based on references, past experiences and logic to provide us with a structure of reality and help us live our daily lives.
Though this conscious filter is a very valuable tool for our survival, with it also comes many limitations which has denied many people their personal power. For example when people tell themselves I can do it!, but their conscious mind replies No you cant. You failed last time, what makes you think its gonna be different now. Because the conscious filter is analytical, logical and based on past experience, many people end up developing limiting beliefs because of it.
The ideal situation is to have a conscious filter that functions properly and can help us go through our daily lives, but yet still let us deliberately control what goes through the filter or not. This is how NLP is able to help us.
How NLP works is it bypasses this filter of the conscious mind. NLP allows any message, suggestion, idea or belief to go directly into the subconscious mind. This is very important because it avoids all the limitations imposed by the conscious mind and allows us to reach our full potential. This is also the main reason why NLP can bring results almost instantaneously.
The feeling I get when using NLP is that I am no longer communicating to my brain in a language it cannot understand. Rather, it is like I am programming it with the compatible programming language. If you want to make full use of your potential (and not just 2% of your brain), learn more about this amazing technology called NLP. - 16890
