Delaware Old Dover Days Festival

The City of Dover is located in Central Delaware in Kent County and is the capital of Delaware. Dover is continuing to grow economically, in population, and in land area. The City of Dover was founded in 1683 by William Penn. In 1717, it was officially laid out over an area of 125 acres by a commission of the Delaware General Assembly. It grew nearly 1,000 acres in size by 1960.

City of Dove is thriving community with residential, industrial, and institutional development continues at a stable rate. There are a variety of historical and cultural attractions, beautiful farmland and coastal scenery, and our curious mix of old traditions and modern high-tech culture that will be interesting for any visitors.

In Kent County, visitors can find Amish buggies on city streets, delicate shorebirds and giant C-5 Galaxy military cargo planes, quiet museums and exciting NASCAR races, arts and antiques, Colonial history, slots and harness racing. Most of our twenty delightful museums and historic sites offer free admission, adding value to your visit.

The Old Dover Days Festival has existed in one form or another in Delawares Capital City, Dover, since 1933. It is held on The Green and Legislative Mall, two beautiful outdoor parks in our historic downtown district. Traditional elements and new components bring in thousands of visitors each year with attendance reaching 15,000.

Old Dover Days is a celebration of the First States Capital City and features a parade, maypole dancing, food court, re-enactors, walking tours, free entertainment and much more. The Old Dover Days Festival will be held on May 2, 2009 for this year. Admission fee is free with a lot of parking space available for free too. Most of the vendors from the previous festivals return year after year. ! The parade line up is at 9:00 AM and begins at 9:30AM. The new addition to the parade is the Pet Parade! - 16890
