How to Curb the Bed Bugs Menace

By Sandra Cook

Bed bugs are a source of vexation that most homes can do without. These annoying bugs survive on warm blood, and if human victims are not available then they target household pets like dogs. Pest control efforts must be carried out earnestly if this problem is to be done away with.

Bed bugs infestation is mainly spread through travellers, but once these annoying bugs reach a new place they make it their own quickly. They usually prosper in the gaps and cracks of beds, carpets and home furniture.

An overwhelming majority of people harbour the wrong notion that bed bugs prefer places that are unclean. It must be remembered that blood and not litter is what attracts these bugs and therefore a clean house is not enough to get rid of them. But cleaner surroundings facilitate better visibility of these pests and thereby getting rid of them becomes easier.

Another myth about bed bugs is that they are too tiny to be seen without external visual aid. Actually these creatures can be seen without any help but it is tough to spot them because their flat bodies enable them to slide into tiny crevices and layers of cloth with effortless ease.

Bed bugs bite. They can live long without eating - up to 6 months or a year.

One of the easiest ways to exterminate bed bugs is to hire an experienced pest controller who can clean the house of these pests. However, there are some home cures also to control their nuisance such as laundering carpets, bed linens and other clothing items in warm water and then keeping them in the sun. Crevices in the walls should be filled with a sealant, and any piece of furniture that has holes must be got rid of to avoid them from turning into breeding grounds for these bugs. - 16890
