What To Look For In A Food Packaging Service

By Sheri Laskl

It might surprise you that in a down economy one product produced in America is in high demand. As a matter of fact, instead of it being imported from China to America it is actually exported to China from America! That product is food.

Food packaging services are booming right now while the rest of the economy is suffering. This could be based on any number of factors but the main ones are the rise in organic packaging, the desire to eat comfort foods during hard times, and the increased popularity of food and cooking shows.

As you are probably aware, food packaging services vary from company to company. While it is usually best to select a packager close to your blender, supplier or baker in order to save transportation costs, you may have to find a food packaging service further away but one that offers special certifications like being Halal or organic certified.

If you look at the store shelves you will notice a trend in companies moving to stick like packs or reclosable stand up pouches. But not all food packaging service companies offer these specialized services. This could be because of the rigorous inspections or the initial cost of food packaging machines.

It is well known that America is lucky to have good soil, plenty of water and wide extremes of climates so we are able to grow everything from blueberries to oranges to sugar cane. We have an abundance of food and now, because or recent food scares, America is able to export food to otherwise impenetrable markets like China. Thus the need for food packaging services is growing domestically.

In case you are reading this article because you are in need of a food packaging service company here are some tips to look for or consider. Are they Kosher or organic? Are they Halal? Do they get inspected by third parties such as AIB or other associations? Are they close to your supplier or port? And lastly, is the facility clean and do they have a quality assurance staff?

Hopefully you now have a basic knowledge of one of America's secret success stories. While the economy is declining there is a rise in food production and food packaging. When you are looking for a food packaging service keep the above questions in mind. - 16890
