Distance Education - Is Online Learning For You?

By John Maxted

With the number of online bachelors degree programs available today there is no reason you can not further your education. The number of online bachelors degree programs from established and respected universities and colleges has never been larger and the degrees awarded for completing these programs carry equal weight to a degree earned through a conventional on campus program. This provides the opportunity to be quite selective and take the exact program you require to pursue your chosen career.

Unfortunately with current economic conditions the job market is harsher than ever. There are thousands of new people being laid off every day, and they all blend in together making it hard to land a nice new gig. But one way you can stand out from the herd is by pursuing and finishing your bachelors degree. You'll be much more attractive to an employer and you will command more respect and a higher salary.

If only it was so easy to finish a degree though. You're not 20 years old anymore without the full slate of adult responsibilities. You probably have a family and a full time job, making an on campus experience extremely hard to coordinate. But with an online degree program you will see how extraordinarily easy and intuitive it is to finish your degree without any problems at all.

The world of online degrees has seen rapid growth and improvement over the last decade, and the last few years specifically. But now there are hundreds of different programs to choose between. Nearly all of them are fully accredited and many of the most respected universities in the country are offering online programs in addition to their traditional offerings.

You no longer have to accept any online program because it's the only one available. You can be picky and choose something that fits your style and your needs, whether you're interested in the arts, philosophy, sciences, business or anything else.

With online bachelors degree programs there are also no age requirements or any other factors that may normally prevent you from wanting to study online. There is no need to commute to and from the university, wasting valuable time and money. And on of the biggest advantages of online education is that you can select the course from any university regardless of the campus location. Enrollment is easy over the internet so there is no actual reason to ever visit the educational institution in person.

Being able to view you lectures online at any time that suits you gives you further flexibility. There is no set schedule, lecture or tutorial timetables. Everything is done when it suits you. If you are a morning person you can complete your study in the morning, or late into the evenings if you are required to work during the day. You also have the flexibility to complete the course work at your own pace. You can spread your degree out over many years and only take one subject at a time if this is all you have the time to do.

While you can pace yourself, you can also accelerate your learning and finish more quickly than with a traditional on campus program. You can take several majors or minors together or take multiple courses at once to meet all of your obligations and requirements. Doing this, you can finish up a degree in half the time that it would take with a normal program.

Completing on campus courses simply doesn't work for most adults with families and job responsibilities. The positive news is that online degree programs are more accepted and more widespread than ever before. You'll get unmatched flexibility and the sky will be the limit with your career and future. - 16890
