How to Start a Home-Based Business with an Inflatable Bounce House

By Robin Buckley

Are you dreaming of quitting your job and starting a business that you can work from home? If you are like most people with this dream, it can be a challenge to get started. The thought of balancing a start up business and still needing to keep the income from the job is not easy. You need a business that will not take a lot of time and money to start up. Buying a bounce house could be the answer.

The bounce house rental business is primarily a weekend business. If you do have rental contacts during the week, you can always set it up the night before. Rent your bounce house out just a few times and you are in profit. Quitting your job will no longer be just a dream.

Owning a bounce house rental business is pretty simple. You deliver the inflatable to the customer, set it up, and when the rental time is over, you deflate it and pack it up.

You will need space in your vehicle for transporting the inflatables. If you do not have cargo space then a small trailer would work. Your bounce house will come with a blower to inflate it but you may want to invest in a generator in case you rent out to a place with no electricity. You will also need some long hoses if your inflatable has a water slide.

You might want to also have a helper for the deliveries and pick-ups as some bounce house units can weight 100 to 400 pounds. Your helper can also serve as a monitor when needed and you will find a high school kid perfect for the job.

There are varying degrees of durability in the materials used for constructing a bounce house. The price will reflect the durability factor. There are some inflatables that will run $1,500.00 to $2,000.00. These models would be suitable for a private birthday party, but if you are looking to rent your units as a larger amusement attraction you should plan on spending $4,000.00 and up for the higher commercial grade.

In any case, you will want your bouncers to be made of the commercial grade PVC material. The extra investment will pay off because your unit will last longer and you will have no problem keeping your customers safe. Commercial grade bounce houses have more spring to them and give your clients a better experience as well as keeping them safe.

Insurance will be necessary and compliance with any state regulations and taxes are a must. You do not want to risk having such a profitable business shut down because you did not pay attention to your requirements. Every state is different, so do your due diligence

There are so many ways to market your inflatable bounce house business. The obvious is having a website, or an ad in the local newspaper or yellow pages. But word of month is always one of your best forms of advertising.

Starting the word of mouth advertising could be as simple as offering your bounce house to a friend or acquaintance who has a child with a birthday party coming up. By offering it at a greatly reduced price or even for free, you will be able to ask for referrals. Also you will want to make sure you place your contact information clearly around the bounce house, exposing your business to others who could use your service too.

If you have a bounce house that is not in use, think about donating it for a day at a local charity event or at a little league event. This could bring you a lot of business if you use your inflatable as a bouncing billboard.

Always have your business contact information clearly displayed at every event you rent. A person who could use a bounce house could be driving by and see your unit. If you display a way for them to contact you, they will. - 16890
