How To Buy Existing Websites

By Brian Armstrong

Getting traffic to a website is not always an easy thing to do. Buying a website that already has traffic is much easier, but determining the value of that site before you purchase is a skill that can be developed over time. Purchasing websites is an excellent way to leverage other people's work for a price.

There is an alternative method of generating visitors to your site and that is to buy a site with existing visitors and place your offer in front of the customers or simply place ads or drive traffic back to your original site. There are plenty of ways to "redirect" traffic back to your site once you own that new site. What it really depends on is how much this new site costs and making estimates of how many people or visitors to that new site will end up back on your original website.

There are visitors to your site that would be considered targeted and then there are the un-targeted visitors. When reviewing sites to purchase, consider sites that have either a direct content match with your site or a related content match, something that visitors would be interested in for either site.

Visitors that happen upon your site some other way would be un-targeted traffic and represent a less likely prospect for purchasing your goods or services. These un-targeted visitors can still be beneficial, but will typically represent a much smaller conversion percentage.

Once you know how much each visitor to your site is worth, you'll know what you can pay for each visitor if you decide to grow your business through pay-per-click or some other source. If you pay for traffic, you'll most likely be focusing on that targeted traffic demographic unless you happen to have a product that speaks to a very large audience (such as weight loss).

There are several websites out there that you can buy websites. Perhaps the one that I use the most is sitepoint.com. This website has a great listings for all kinds of websites for sale. Another place you can buy websites is eBay.com. These are two sources for websites available to purchase. You'll have data on how much traffic as well as revenue these sites are making.

Don't buy a website on your first time out. What I mean is that no matter how good it sounds, wait a little while and research several sites before you commit to buy to get a feel for what types of sites fetch what price. So, consider this when you go to purchase a new website.

There are several strategies not only for buying a website to help and support your primary site, but also as a method to leverage existing work other people have done to even run your own business. If you use this strategy effectively, this has the potential of being a very low cost of new traffic to your site. This also means that if you're going to use this strategy you'll need to find sites for sale that are either in your niche or a closely related niche to yours. - 16890
