The New Nokia N97 - How Does It Compare To The N96

The Nokia N97 is the latest smartphone, which has been released by Nokia. But many people wonder as to how this version is different from its predecessor, which was the Nokia N96 that was released in September 2008. There are actually quite a few differences, which exist between the two successive models, and we are going to take a look at the differences, which exist in each angle and each aspect of these phones.

Size - The new Nokia N97 Smartphone is actually 1.5 cm longer than the N96 and the thickness between the two phones also differs by a few millimeters. The latest Nokia N97 is also 25gms heavier when compared to the previous model.

Slider - The new Nokia N 97 contains a new slider and this will also help in providing better access to the QWERTY keyboard, which has been made available. Three rows of keys have been provided in the new keyboard and there are two characters, which have been assigned for every key. The size of every key is similar to the keys, which are present in any other mobile phone.

Display screen - The new Nokia N97 has 3.5 inches touch screen size but the screen size of the N96 is only 2.8 inches. The resolution of the screen in new Nokia N97 has been upgraded to 640*320 pixels. Both the N96 and N97 display screen comes with 16 million-color.

The new Nokia N97 contains a touch screen along with a QWERTY keyboard. The facility to customize your home screen as per your own convenience has been provided here. All the widgets and icons, which you will be requiring on a regular basis, will also be made available on screen. A stylus can also be used on this touch screen since it operates using pressure. The new Nokia N97 also contains six new themes and every user can also download and add more themes from any third party. The facility of handwriting recognition is also available in the new Nokia N97. But it is also necessary to undergo a handwriting-training course in order to understand exactly how the letters should be formed so that the phone will be able to understand them.

Camera - The camera of the new Nokia N97 is 5 megapixels, which is the same as its predecessor. But the digital zoom on this new Smartphone has been improved from 8x to 14x and the video can also be recorded in DVD quality picture. The cameras of both the phones contain Carl Zeiss lenses as well as dual LED flash.

Storage - The new Nokia N97 has the capacity to store information up to 32 GB. By using a MicroSD card the memory capacity can be further increased upto 16MB.

Battery There is a marked improvement in the staying power of the n97. Now there is 360 minutes of talk time in WCMDA mode and 570 minutes in GSM mode. In terms of standby battery life the n97 battery will last about 400 hours in standby mode. This up from the 220 talk and 220 standby minutes of the n96. Due to the energy requirements of the new larger screen the n97 has a 1500mAh battery rather than the 950mAh battery that was provided with the n96

Cut and Paste With the new n97 there is the ability to cut and paste information.

Connectivity As well as maintaining the 3G HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc the n97 has added the digital compass feature to its GPS offering. This allows you to move about and have your maps rotate just as you do. The GPS allows you to have the maps you need and there is a Drive navigation facility.
